Happy One Fourth Birthday, Eston!

I'm surprised that Hallmark hasn't figured out the huge market in celebrating fractional birthdays. Today is Eston's 1/4 birthday! His accomplishment for the week is learning to fall asleep on his own, to self-soothe. Until two nights ago, Eston had only fallen asleep while eating or being bounced around. This was wearing us out, so we decided to try to train him to fall asleep by himself. We are conditioning him to a nighttime routine that gets him ready for sleeping: a bath, nursing, reading a book. On Tuesday night, the first time we put him down on his own, he cried for 25 minutes straight. He was looking hungry again, so I fed him, and then put him down again. He whimpered for 10 minutes and then fell asleep on his own for the first time. Hooray! Last night, he literally made two peeps and then fell asleep. Tonight, he cried for about 10-15 minutes and is now sleeping. He seems to have the hang of it! This is a huge relief to us. Here he is, sleeping peacefully on his 1/4 birthday.

I am impressed. Now, you can come to Firenze and train Camilla and Francesco to self-go-to-sleep.
